Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit *𑀪𑀟𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀇 (*bhaḍakkaï, to make a sudden movement or noise), from 𑀪𑀟𑀓𑁆𑀓 m (bhaḍakka, noise), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀪𑀝𑁆 (*bhaṭ, sudden movement or noise) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓𑁆𑀓- (-kka-). Compare Old Marathi 𑘥𑘚𑘎𑘨𑘼𑘡𑘲 (bhaḍakaraunī, with a blaze). Related to भडक (bhaḍak), भडका (bhaḍkā). Compare Gujarati ભડકવું (bhaḍakvũ), Hindustani بَھڑَکْنَا (bhaṛaknā) / भड़कना (bhaṛaknā), Sindhi ڀَڙْڪَڻُ / भड़कणु, Punjabi ਭੜਕਣਾ (bhaṛkaṇā) / بھڑکݨا (bhṛkṇā), Maithili भड़कब (bhaṛᵊkab) / 𑒦𑒛𑓃𑒏𑒥 (bhaṛakaba), Odia ଭଡ଼କିବା (bhaṛakibā).
