Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰarȷ́ʰíš (“padding, pillow, cushion”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰolǵʰ-í-s. Cognate with Avestan 𐬠𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬰𐬌𐬱 (barəziš, “pad, pillow”), Persian بالش (pillow, cushion).
