Borrowed from Northwestern Indo-Aryan, whence Punjabi ਵਡੱਪਣ (vaḍappaṇ). By surface analysis, बड़ा (baṛā) +‎ -पन (-pan).

Usage notes

The word बड़प्पन (baṛappan) is not used in the context of the size of objects. It is only understood in terms of the superiority of positions, status, dignity, etc.
