[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian فرمان (farmān), ultimately from Proto-Indo-Iranian *pramaHnam. Doublet of प्रमाण (pramāṇ) and प्रमाणे (pramāṇe). Compare Bengali ফরমান (phoroman), Gujarati ફરમાન (pharmān), Hindi फ़रमान (farmān), Kannada ಫರ್ಮಾನು (pharmānu), Punjabi ਫ਼ਰਮਾਨ (farmān) / فَرمان (farmān).
