[edit]Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀨𑀡𑀲 (phaṇasa) or Maharastri Prakrit 𑀧𑀡𑀲 (paṇasa), from Sanskrit पनस (panasa). Ultimately from Proto-Dravidian *palṇas. Cognate to Gujarati ફણસ (phaṇas).
