Learned borrowing from Sanskrit पृच्छा (pṛcchā), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *pr̥śćaH, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *pr̥sćaH, from Proto-Indo-European *pr̥sḱeh₂, derived from the verb *pr̥sḱéti, from the root *preḱ- (to ask). Doublet of पूछ (pūch). Cognate with Proto-West Germanic *forsku (question).
