Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *puHšā́, from Proto-Indo-European *Péh₂-usōn, from *peh₂- (“to protect”). Traditionally explained as from the root पूष् (pūṣ, “to nourish”), a possibly fictitious alternative form of पुष् (puṣ).
