Inherited from Old Gujarati पूछइ (pūchaï), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀧𑀼𑀘𑁆𑀙𑀤𑀺 (pucchadi), from Sanskrit पृच्छति (pṛcchati), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *pr̥ćśáti, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *pr̥šćáti, from Proto-Indo-European *pr̥sḱéti.[1] Cognate with Old Marathi 𑘢𑘳𑘭𑘜𑘹 (pusaṇe).
