[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀧𑀺𑀉𑀳𑀭 (piuhara), from Sanskrit पितृघर (pitṛghara, “father's house”), a compound of पितृ (pitṛ́) + घर (ghara); or from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀧𑁂𑀈𑀳𑀭 (peīhara), from Sanskrit पैतृकघर (paitṛkaghara, “paternal house”), a compound of पैतृक (paítṛka) + घर (ghara). Cognate with Marwari पीहर (pīhar) and Gujarati પિયર (piyar).
