[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀧𑀲𑁆𑀲 (passa), 𑀧𑀸𑀲 (pāsa), from Sanskrit पार्श्वे (pārśve, “near”, ins. sg.). Cognate with Marathi पासून (pāsūn), Gujarati પાસે (pāse).
