Etymology

From a verbal derivative of Sanskrit पक्व (pakvá, ripe). Cognate with Punjabi ਪੱਕਣਾ (pakkaṇā) / پَکّݨا (pakkṇā), Saraiki پَکَّݨ (pakkaṇ), Gujarati પાકવું (pākvũ), Hindi पकना (paknā), Bengali পাকা (paka)[1].
