Etymology

From Sanskrit *परिकोट (parikoṭa), from परि- (pari-, around) +‎ कोट (koṭa, fort); or from Sanskrit परिकूट (parikūṭa, barrier or trench before a town's gate); or from Sanskrit पुरकोट्ट (purakoṭṭa, citadel).
