Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘡𑘰𑘭𑘜𑘹 (nāsaṇe), 𑘡𑘰𑘫𑘜𑘹 (nāśaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀡𑀲𑁆𑀲𑀇 (ṇassaï), from Sanskrit नश्यति (náśyati), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *náśyati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *náćyati, from Proto-Indo-European *néḱ-ye-ti, ye-present form of the root *neḱ- (“to perish, disappear”).
