Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀡𑀗𑁆𑀕𑀭 (ṇaṅgara), from Sanskrit लाङ्गल (lāṅgala) or directly borrowed from Dravidian. Compare with Marathi नांगर (nāṅgar), Ollari నాంగల్ (nāṅgal).
