Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰa(H)inúš (“milch cow”), a derivation from Proto-Indo-European *dʰeh₁(y)- (“to suckle, nurse”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬛𐬀𐬉𐬥𐬎 (daēnu).
