Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰurH- (“chariot pole, shaft”), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰurh₁- (“id”). Cognate with Hittite [script needed] (tūrii̯a-, “to harness”), Ancient Greek θαιρός (thairós, “hinge, axle, pivot”), and perhaps Tocharian A tursko (“draught ox”).
