[edit]Borrowed from Sanskrit द्विवेदिन् (dvivedin, “knowing two Vedas”). Doublet of दुबे (dube) and दवे (dave). By surface analysis, द्वि- (dvi-) + वेद (ved) + -ई (-ī).
