Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *dadárśa, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dadárća, from Proto-Indo-European *de-dór-ḱe, from *derḱ- (“to see”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬛𐬁𐬛𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬯𐬀 (dādarəsa), Ancient Greek δέδορκεν (dédorken).

Notes |
|
The middle forms are in Vedic often accented on the first syllable, e.g. ददृशे (dádṛśe), which is an indication of their use with a present meaning: "to be visible".
In the Atharvaveda occurs once the third plural imperative middle ददृश्राम् (dadṛśrām).
