[edit]Inherited from Prakrit 𑀣𑀢𑁆𑀢𑀺𑀅 (thattia, “rest”), from Sanskrit *स्थाप्ति (sthāpti, “placing”), from स्थापयति (sthāpáyati, “to cause to stand, place, locate, lay”).
