Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀣𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀇 (thakkaï), perhaps from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀲𑁆𑀣𑀓𑁆𑀓𑁆 (*sthakk). Cognate with Gujarati થાકવું (thākvũ), Hindustani تَھکْنَا (thaknā) / थकना (thaknā), Sindhi ٿَڪَڻُ / थकणु, Punjabi ਥਕਣਾ (thakṇā), ਥੱਕਣਾ (thakkaṇā) / تھکݨا (thkṇā), Nepali थाक्नु (thāknu), Bengali থাকা (thaka), Assamese থকা (thoka), থাকা (thaka).
