[edit]Inherited from Prakrit 𑀇𑀢𑁆𑀣𑀻 (itthī), from Sanskrit स्त्री (strī́). The irregularity explained as a borrowing from Punjabi ਤਿਰਿਆ (tiriā) or influence from Sanskrit.[1] Compare Urdu تِرْیا (tiryā).
