Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘝𑘰𑘪𑘜𑘹 (tāvaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀢𑀸𑀯𑁂𑀇 (tāvei), from Sanskrit तापयति (tāpayati).
