Etymology

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀢𑀢𑁆𑀢 (tatta) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-) without compensatory lengthening, from Sanskrit तप्त (taptá), from Proto-Indo-European *tep-tós. Cognate with Punjabi ਤੱਤਾ (tattā).
