[edit]From Maharastri Prakrit 𑀚𑀕𑁆𑀕𑀇 (jaggaï), from Sanskrit जागरति (jāgarati), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁ger- (“to be awake, to wake up”). Compare Marathi जागणे (j̈āgṇe), Hindi जागना (jāgnā).
