[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian جنگی (jangī), from the noun جنگ (jang). By surface analysis, जंग (jaṅg) + -ई (-ī). Compare Punjabi ਜੰਗੀ (jaṅgī) / جَنگی (jangī), Bengali জঙ্গী (joṅgi), Gujarati જંગી (jaṅgī).
