[edit]Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀘𑀉𑀭𑀁𑀕 (caüraṃga) (compare Old Marathi 𑘓𑘼𑘨𑘽𑘐 𑘎𑘨𑘜𑘹 (cauraṃga karaṇe, “to chop off a person's limbs”), 𑘓𑘼𑘨𑘽𑘐𑘲 (cauraṃgī)), from Sanskrit चतुरङ्ग (cáturaṅga). Compare Hindustani چَورَنگ (caurang) / चौरंग (cauraṅg), Assamese চৌৰাঙ্গ (souraṅgo), চৌৰাঙ্গী (souraṅgi).
