[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀘𑀁𑀤𑀺𑀡 (caṃdiṇa), ultimately derived from Sanskrit चन्द्र (candrá, “moon”). Cognate with Bengali চাঁদনী (cãdoni), Marathi चांदणी (cāndṇī).
