Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Iranian *gʰransás, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰr-ens(o)- (heat), from the root *gʷʰer- (to be hot). Cognate with Welsh gwres (heat), Old Irish grís (heat (of the sun), fire, embers).[1]
