[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *gʰransás, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰr-ens(o)- (“heat”), from the root *gʷʰer- (“to be hot”). Cognate with Welsh gwres (“heat”), Old Irish grís (“heat (of the sun), fire, embers”).[1]
