Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *guHtʰás. Cognate with Proto-Slavic *govьno, Proto-Iranian *guHθáh (whence Avestan 𐬔𐬏𐬚𐬀 (gūθa), Persian گوه (guh)). The Sanskrit root is गू (gū).
