Etymology

[edit]

Borrowed from Arabic خُلَاصَة (ḵulāṣa). The primary senses are further influenced by खुलना (khulnā, to open, come out), but the lack of the suffix -आसा (-āsā) in other tadbhava words suggest this to be a folk conflation.
