Inherited from Prakrit 𑀔𑀚𑁆𑀚𑀽𑀭 / खज्जूर / ಖಜ್ಜೂರ (khajjūra), from Sanskrit खर्जूर (kharjūra). Compare Bengali খেজুর (khejur), Assamese খেজুৰ (khezur).
