Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘎𑘳𑘽𑘎𑘳 (kuṃku), from Prakrit 𑀓𑀼𑀁𑀓𑀼𑀫 (kuṃkuma), from Sanskrit कुङ्कुम (kuṅkuma).
