    From Proto-Indo-Aryan *kā́ś-, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *kā́ć-, from Proto-Indo-European *kʷeḱ- (to see, look).

    Cognates include Proto-Slavic *kāzàti (to show) and Ancient Greek τέκμᾰρ (tékmar, token).
