[edit]Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀓𑀸𑀭𑁂𑀮𑁆𑀮𑀅 (kārellaa), related to, if not from, Sanskrit कारवेल्ल (kāravella, “bitter melon”). Compare Gujarati કારેલું (kārelũ), Hindustani کَریلَا (karelā) / करेला (karelā), Punjabi ਕਰੇਲਾ (karelā) / کَریلا (karelā), Bengali করলা (korla), Assamese কেৰেলা (kerela).
