[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian کبوتر (kabūtar), from Middle Persian [script needed] (kpwtl /kabōtar/, “pigeon”). Compare Punjabi ਕਬੂਤਰ (kabūtar), Gujarati કબૂતર (kabūtar), Marathi कबूतर (kabūtar), Bengali কবুতর (kobutor). Doublet of कपोत (kapot).
