Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hr̥HwáraH, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂r̥h₃-wé-reh₂ (“fertile land”), from *h₂erh₃- (“to plough”). Cognate with Younger Avestan 𐬎𐬭𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬭𐬁 (uruuarā), Ancient Greek ἄρουρᾰ (ároură, “cultivated land”).
