Inherited from Proto-Indo-Iranian *HaHā́dʰa, from a root *Hadʰ. Cognate with Old Avestan 𐬁𐬛𐬁 (ādā, “I say”), 𐬁𐬛𐬀𐬭𐬇 (ādarə̄, “they say”). Unrelated to Latin aiō.
