Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *h₂néḱ-t ~ *h₂n̥ḱ-ént (root aorist of *h₂neḱ- (“to reach, attain”)) with an innovative *h₁é- prefix.[1]

The third-singular injunctive नक् (nak) only occurs with the prefix प्र- (pra-): प्रणक् (praṇak). This to avoid two retroflex consonants.[2]
