Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hánas, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hánas, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃énh₂os (“load; burden”), from *h₃enh₂- (“to onerate; to charge”) + *-os. Cognate with Latin onus. Compare English onerous, a Latin borrowing.
