Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀅𑀘𑁆𑀙𑀭 (*acchara), from Sanskrit अक्षर (akṣara, syllable, letter, sound, etc.). Doublet of अक्षर (akṣar) and आखर (ākhar).
