Etymology
[edit]From Aramaic תִּקְלָא (tiqlā), from Akkadian 𒂅 (šiqlum); cognate with Hebrew שֶׁקֶל (shékel), Arabic ثِقْل (ṯiql, “weight”), as well as South Levantine Arabic شِيكِل (šēkel).
