From Aramaic קֵיטָא (qēṭā), from Proto-Semitic *qyẓ, from Proto-Afroasiatic *ḳayč̣- (to be hot; summer); compare Hebrew קַיִץ (káyits) and Arabic قَيْظ (qayẓ, midsummer).
