[edit]From Aramaic צַלְמָא (ṣaləmā); cognate with Hebrew צֶלֶם (tsélem), Akkadian 𒀩 (ṣalmum) and Arabic صَنَم (ṣanam) by dissimilation of /l/ to /n/.
