Etymology

From the root ܥ-ܘ-ܡ (ʿ-w-m) related to obscuring. Compare Arabic غَيْم (ḡaym), Ge'ez ጊሜ (gime). The sense of "aër" is a calque of Ancient Greek ᾱ̓ήρ (āḗr).
