[edit]From ܥܘܠܐ (ʿawwālāʾ, “wrongdoer”), modified from ܥܘܠܐ (ʿawlāʾ, “wrong”), from the root ܥ-ܘ-ܠ (ʿ-w-l) + the abstract noun ending -ܘܬܐ (-ūṯāʾ).
