Derived from ܣܲܥܪܵܐ (saˁrā, “hair”); cognate to Akkadian 𒋠 (šārtu [SÍK]), Arabic شَعْرَة (šaʕra), Hebrew שַׂעֲרָה (sa'ará), and Ugaritic 𐎌𐎓𐎗𐎚 (šʿrt, “wool”).
