From the root ܢ-ܒ-ܪ-ܫ (n-b-r-š), related to kindling, from ܢܒܪܫܬܐ (naḇreštā, candelabrum), either from Old Persian [Term?] (/⁠*nibrāšti-⁠/) or from Akkadian 𒈾𒀊𒇺 (/⁠nabliš⁠/, like a flame, like a light or flash); compare Arabic نِبْرَاس (nibrās).
