Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac, a tool noun derived from the verb ܫܵܐܹܓ݂ (šāˀēḡ, “to purge, filter; to wash”).

- w-mūlil lēh māryā ˁam mūšē: “mtarṣit mšāḡtā d-nḥāšā w-laqnā w-kannā d-nḥāšā qā šyāḡtā. w-matḇit lāh bēn maškan waˁdā w-bēn maḏbḥā, w-haḇl tammā mayyā.”
- Then the Lord said to Moses, “Make a bronze basin, with its bronze stand, for washing. Place it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it.”
