Nominalized from the feminine form of ܡܨܥܝܐ (meṣʿāyāʾ, middle, central), from the root ܡ-ܨ-ܥ (m-ṣ-ʿ) related to being in the middle. Compare Hebrew אֶמְצָעִית (ʾemṣāʿîṯ).
