Etymology

Feminine form of ܟܲܠܒܵܐ (kalbā), from Aramaic כַּלְבְּתָא (kalbəṯā); compare Arabic كَلْبَة (kalba) and Hebrew כַּלְבָּה (kalbá). The latter noun is an occupational noun derived from the former.
